Kapu Minaral Pendant - Fiona Elisala - Bu-ya - 361-18
This hand woven pendant is part of a new collection Kapu Minaral, developed by Koskela in collaboration with Moa Arts. The collaboration, a first of its kind, uses traditional weaving techniques to create a truly beautiful and contemporary design product. As each individual artist has complete freedom to interpret the form, each light is a one off and therefore entirely unique.
The intrinsic interwoven of raffia through the lampshades signifies Buya meaning light in the top western Torres Strait dialect. The colours of natural dyes incorporated using contemporary colour dye of orange symbolises Buya twined with matchstick box which is known as kulap in our language. This shell is used to make instrumental sound with it.
